Diana is a first-generation Hunter 25 sloop designed by John E Cherubini and built by Hunter Marine Corporation at Marlboro, New Jersey, in February-March 1974. She was found neglected and nearly abandoned, by John Jr. (‘JC2’), son of the designer, from Bass River Marina (now Viking Yachting Center) in November 2002.

Since then JC2 has been diligently working away at a major restoration in which nearly every part of the boat has been inspected, restored, redesigned, and/or reengineered. He has applied his extensive knowledge of yacht systems to revitalize a true classic in the world of boat design, the model which first launched Hunter Marine, a company started by brothers John and Warren Luhrs which quickly became a multimillion-dollar concern. JC2 actually contributed design work on the Hunter 25 as well as to the 30, 33, and 54 models while still a teenager and student at high school and at junior college.

The boat has been redesigned to fulfill several missions: performance cruising boat, full-time home afloat, mobile media studio, marketing vehicle, and display/demonstration platform for unique systems and hardware designed by JC2 and others. Seaworthiness, practicality, safety, convenience, comfort, sailing speed, energy efficiency, and aethetics are all considerations. When completed Diana will represent how a rather common and originally cheap little fiberglass boat from the 1970s can be restored and maintained, in the most important ways, without much financial expense or major effort.
